Dr. Amitha Gona, MD is the founder of Pioneer Rheumatology, bringing dedicated Rheumatology care to Tualatin, Oregon. Dr. Gona is passionate about treating complex autoimmune diseases — conditions that often affect multiple organ systems and require a thoughtful, comprehensive approach. She has always been drawn to the intricate diagnostic puzzles these diseases present, and finds deep fulfillment in building a clear diagnostic plan and a treatment approach tailored to each patient’s individual needs.

Dr. Gona completed her medical training at UCSF Fresno, where strong mentorship first sparked her love for Rheumatology. She went on to complete her fellowship at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) in Oklahoma City, training under world-renowned Rheumatologists who helped lay a deep and lasting foundation for her clinical practice. Following her training, she spent 11 years practicing as a community Rheumatologist in Salem, Oregon, caring for patients through some of their most challenging health journeys.

Dr. Gona believes strongly in including patients as partners in their own care decisions. Her practice is guided by four core values: Approachable, Advocate, Adaptable, and Available — because your health deserves nothing less.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Gona enjoys endurance walks, getting lost in a good book, and traveling.
